Confession: it seems like I have been abusing my Copytalk subscription. How many ways can one manipulate a service to make it work for them? Although I am using and abusing it daily, all hours of the clock, multiple continued dictations, it is also like my new best friend or new best personal assistant. I "speak" to Copytalk more than to most members of our extended family - added up! I’ve had Copytalk for about six months and it has helped me cut down on office time and complete some long standing personal goals. I had tried other personal dictation services and apps, but none of them have been as good as Copytalk. With Copytalk, my dictations come back as very good drafts or completed text. Any mistakes are my own such as when I do not spell out a surname or when I sneeze, make other noises or ramble. It is easy to just cut and paste my Copytalk dictation into a document (proposal, email, PowerPoint, letter, etc), make a few tweaks, and the final version is ready.
Here’s how I use Copytalk: pop on my Bluetooth. Dial Copytalk. Punch in 4 digit password. Give subject line (so that I can properly file the email). Say "text" and then speak. Hit pound (#) sign to continue.
Here is when I use it: walking, traveling, while cleaning, while waiting, after client meetings, while gardening or doing lawn work. So far I have not been able to figure out how to use it: while swimming, showering, or when out of satellite connectivity (like remote boating or camping) or while in 3rd world countries.
Here is what I have been able to do with Copytalk: recap client meetings; make lists of client assets, debts, income, tax info; give "to do" lists and task lists to myself, staff and others; draft my first book; draft part of my second book; grocery list; personal "to do" lists; packing lists; dictate personal journal and diary entries; draft emails; draft letters; draft marketing material; draft PowerPoint presentations; employee reviews; draft business plans; job descriptions; mandatory client forms; our family Christmas letter... probably more, but I have lost track.
When we were updating our business plan, we even added "Copytalk" as an asset much like another staff member! Just so long as it does not ask for end of year bonuses or vacation time, we are good with it.
